A lone Queen Anne-styled row house built around 1895 at 3633 S. Ellis Avenue features a trait more commonly associated with the Second Empire style: a mansard roof.

Work is finally about to get underway to turn this 1889 residence into 10 apartment units. A three-story addition will be constructed, as well as the installation of a new fence. The house had gone into foreclosure in 2011.

Built for George E. Wood in 1885, and designed by architect John C. Cochrane, who also designed the Illinois State Capitol. Was owned by the same family from 1948 until 2011, when it was sold for $450,000.
