Gabriel X. Michael (GXM) is a freelance photographer and artist, and contributes to local news and media organizations including Gapers Block, Arcadia Publishing, Curbed Chicago, Chicagoist, WBEZ Chicago Public Media, and the Chicago Reader. 

His work investigates the historic nature of urban space and the city of Chicago, and the sociological motivations underlying its organization, development, and reappropriation.

Past projects include documenting the demolition of the Cabrini-Green housing projects (2010-2011) and photographing street and graffiti art throughout the city of Chicago (2009-2012). Current projects include documentation of the City of Chicago’s “Red X” emergency response program, and making photographs of overlooked architectural features and points of interest on the West Side of Chicago.
