Beverly Hills, Chicago
Twelve miles south of The Loop is Beverly. A very beautiful community of wealth, historical architecture, luscious trees, fabled Longwood Drive, and a castle.

A racially and ethnically diverse neighborhood, Beverly is also located on the highest elevation in Chicago.

Longwood Drive is full of spacious homes that sit high up on hills.

Above is Givens Castle, built in 1886 by Robert Givens. He wanted the castle to look like what he remembered growing up in Ireland.

The limestone was brought from the famous Joliet Rock Quarry [PDF]. Givens Castle has a interesting history it has been several homes, a girls school, and a house of worship and a school again.

As I walked down from Givens Castle I was simply in awe of the eclectic homes.

In addition to the great architecture, Beverly also has great shopping and cool restaurants. It has managed to stay just as it always has been–smooth and sophisticated. Although it is now known as Beverly, it was originally part of Washington Heights. There is a great deal of interesting history here.
A visit to Beverly Hills of the Midwest is well worth the drive or train ride.
